When we take a photograph of something ordinary or not very spectacular, we often use filters to make such photos look somewhat special. This is the idea behind the design of Pleated House.

Located in suburban Bangkok and surrounded by neighboring houses, this house needed some "filter" to screen its view to the outside environment. Together with another L-Shaped house of the owner's brother, Pleated House forms itself into an additional L creating a closed boundary for the private family space. The next step called upon to control the environment was to apply the aforementioned "filter".

The distinctive character of this house is a pleated aluminum facade, as seen from the west. This screen helps to protect the living space from the afternoon sun. The pleated from further not only brings more strength to the thin perforated sheet but also creates a unique element of shade and shadow. The visual effect achieved by looking through this pleated screen is just like looking through a filter to an outside view. The view through the perforated facade causes the plain view of this neighborhood to appear more graphical and comes with the added benefit of protecting the privacy of the interior space from the neighbors.
